Phyllaxis is a real-time audiovisual performance inspired by nature’s self-organizing patterns and the principles of chaos theory. Drawing on the spiral geometry of phyllotaxis, it reveals how simple rules generate intricate, living systems. Live sound—ranging from granular textures to resonant pulses—is sculpted in performance and fed into custom generative algorithms that produce responsive large-scale visuals. This creates a bidirectional feedback loop where sound shapes image, and image guides sonic choices. Patterns reminiscent of galaxies, plants, and fractals emerge from algorithmic chaos, reflecting the interplay between order and unpredictability. By positioning technology as an active creative partner, Phyllaxis reframes chaos as a fertile, generative force, offering a meditative exploration of nature’s logic and the collaborative possibilities of human– machine creation.
